Navigating Grief.

Grief is one of life’s most profound human experiences. The death of a loved one can leave us feeling overwhelmed, lost, and unsure of how to move forward. While grief is a natural response to loss, it can affect every part of our lives – our emotions, relationships, physical health, and sense of identity.

It is deeply personal, often unpredictable and rarely follows a straight path.

Although grief can feel isolating, it is a natural response to loss, understanding it can help us be kinder to ourselves and more supportive of those around us.

There is no timeline, one of our biggest misconceptions about grief is that it has a deadline. Society often expects people to “move on” after a certain period, but grief does not work like that.

Some days may feel manageable, while others can bring an unexpected wave of emotion triggered by a memory, song, a birthday, or anniversary. These moments do not mean someone is grieving incorrectly – they are part of adapting to life after loss.

There is no “right” way to grieve and no timetable for healing, everyone’s journey is unique, shaped by the relationship they had with the person who died, the circumstances of the loss, and their own life experiences.

Grief is far more than sadness. It can bring a wide range of emotions, including anger, guilt, relief, anxiety, numbness, loneliness, and even moments of peace or happiness. These emotions may come and go unexpectedly, making grief feel unpredictable.

It’s important to remember that these reactions are common, grief is not something to get over but something we learn to live alongside.

You may benefit from professional support if:

Your grief feels overwhelming or unmanageable

You feel stuck or unable to move forward in any area of your life

You are withdrawing from family, friends, or activities you once enjoyed

Seeking support isn’t about forgetting the person you loved. It’s about finding a way to carry your grief while also caring for yourself.

Therapy can provide a confidential space where you can talk openly about your thoughts and feelings, without fear of judgement or pressure to be anything other than yourself.

Together, we can explore your experience, make sense of your emotions, and find ways to help you navigate life while honouring the person or life you have lost.
