Understanding the Inner Child - Healing the past to improve the present.

Many of our thoughts, emotions, behaviours and relationship patterns are influenced by experiences from childhood. The concepts of the “inner child” refers to the part of us that carries memories, emotions, needs and beliefs formed during our early years.

While the term is often used in therapy, it does not mean there is a child living inside us, instead it represents the emotional experiences from childhood that continue to shape our adult lives.

Understanding and nurturing the inner child can be a powerful step towards emotional healing, self-awareness and personal growth.

Signs your inner child may need some attention:

Difficulty trusting others

Fear of rejection

Low self-esteem

People pleasing behaviours

Intense emotional reactions

Perfectionism

Inner child therapy helps to explore how childhood experiences affect your current emotional life, the goal is not to relive the past but to understand it, process unresolved emotions, and develop healthier ways of responding to present day challenges.
